The jewelry of Oscar Pärno and Opifors spans over fine jewelry with pearls and diamonds, to modern silver jewelry in geometric shapes, typically earrings and bracelets, sometimes with cabochon cut semiprecious stones.

Oscar Pärno of OPI / Opifors

Oscar Pärno was born in Estonia, but lived and worked in Sweden, where he built his jewelry company in the 1960s. The company’s maker’s mark for gold- and silverware, OPI, was first registered in 1963, in Johanneshov, Stockholm, using Pärno’s own name. Six years later, in 1969, the company was registered in Falköping under the name Opifors, an abbreviation of the names of the two owners; Oscar Pärno and Jan Forsberg.

The small city of Falköping was at the time a center for production of gold- and silverware in Sweden. Opifors was one of several companies competing and cooperating, of which the more well-known Alton company came to take the lead. Business was tough and in the 1970s and 1980s Opifors went through a series of buyouts, where several companies ended up incorporated in the Alton brand. Thus, the pioneership of Oscar Pärno lives on in the history of Swedish jewelry.

Oscar Pärno ended his days in Stockholm, and was buried at the Memorial Grove of the Unesco World Heritage cemetery Skogskyrkogården.

We just added this delightful set of screwback earrings on silver and cabochon-cut amethysts to our website:
