Øystein Balle (1928-1998) was a Norwegian jeweler famed for his vibrant enamel creations. Coming from a family of goldsmiths in Stavanger, Balle learned his craft in his father’s workshop, focusing on enameling and repair work. He went on to establish his own workshop in 1953. Initially a repair shop, it evolved into a prolific enamel jewelry producer, incorporating the techniques and designs of the workshop he acquired from goldsmith G. Hellstrøm.

His pieces were renowned for their vivid colors and unique designs, distinguishing them in the world of enamel jewelry. Balle’s ambitious plans for international expansion faced setbacks, resulting in a return to smaller-scale production, which continued until the early 1980s. Despite these challenges, his innovative designs reached collectors worldwide, ensuring a lasting legacy. The small scale of his business allowed for experimentation, resulting in a variety of unique color combinations in his enamel brooches and jewelry, reminiscent of the more experimental works from designers like Nora Gulbrandsen.
